Ondansetron Nausea. Ondansetron works in the stomach to block the signals to the brain that cause nausea. Ondansetron is in a class of medications called serotonin 5-HT 3 receptor antagonists.
It is known as a serotonin receptor antagonist. Ondansetron is used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy radiation therapy and surgery. Unlike many other antiemetic agents there are no sedative or extrapyramidal side effects.
To prevent nausea after surgery take ondansetron by mouth 1 hour before the start of surgery.
